Our Client a London Authority is seekin to employ a Health and Safety office to join their busy team.
The main roles and responsibilities are as follows :
1. Under the general direction of the Divisional Manager (Commercial), carry out a proactive workload of programmed health and safety inspections in commercial premises, investigate accidents and take appropriate enforcement and informal action to secure compliance.
2. Manage a reactive workload of complaint led work, taking informal and formal action, as appropriate, and in consultation with the Divisional Manager (Commercial).
3. Respond to enquiries, investigate complaints and give specialist advice in health and safety and related matters.
4. Assist in promoting the work of the Service and other Cluster activities as necessary including public meetings, committees and panels of the Council.
5. Liaise with external organisations, other authorities, working parties, other Council departments and staff within the Service to achieve best practice relating to the duties of the post.
6. Maintain a specialist role at the discretion of the Divisional Manager (Commercial). In this capacity, represent the Service and co-ordinate staff to achieve objectives agreed with the Divisional Manager (Commercial).
7. Prepare and deal with correspondence, licences, briefs, plans and other documents, to originate reports and prepare and evaluate statistics.
8. Give evidence at legal proceedings, quasi-judicial meetings and other hearings.
9. Take part in out of hours activities, as required, for which an extra payment will be made.
10. Attend seminars, workplace training and courses in order to maintain adequate levels of knowledge in order to achieve business needs.
11. Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in line with business needs.
12. Be responsible for the use of computers and the maintenance of all necessary records and administration in connection with the duties of the post.
13. Be responsible for equipment and protective clothing available to assist in the duties of the post.
14. Work in close collaboration with other members of staff in the Service to assist in motivating and advising them so that the most effective work output is achieved.
15. The service of improvement and prohibition notices under the Health & safety at Work etc Act 1974 without supervision is subject to the postholder attaining the relevant qualification as detailed in the Person Profile which will allow progression through SCP 34.
